Our offices will continue to operate in accordance with Governor Lamont’s “Reopen Connecticut” sector rules. Since March, advisors have worked with 56 region high school Class of 2020 students via email, text and video calls to ensure their college admission process was completed on time, and 164 college students to ensure they stay on track to graduate. This year, 17 students who participated in the Success Program graduated with their bachelor’s degrees! Although we prefer to gather, this year we are celebrating each student’s college decision and graduation achievement, in creative “socially-distanced” ways.

The Caps & Gowns event is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We need your support to strengthen programming for all of our students. Therefore, please consider making a donation today, and next year, join us on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the Hilton Mystic for our 10th Anniversary Celebration.

In June 2019, community leaders, students, families and friends attended Higher Edge’s Inaugural Caps & Gowns Event to celebrate 21 Higher Edge Success Program students who graduated from college and to honor Higher Edge Founder Chris Soto! It was a wonderful, heartfelt evening as students shared their stories and achievements. Many thanks to our event sponsors who made the evening possible: Atlantic Broadband, Chelsea Groton Bank, Connecticut College, Dominion Energy, Eastern Connecticut State University and L& M Hospital.

We are incredibly saddened by the violence and senseless racism that has affected black communities for generations. Higher Edge’s mission is aimed at leveling the playing field, of supporting young people in our community who are our country’s future. We believe that Black History should be a requirement – not elective – in every school across the country. And that the time to enact policies to end systemic racism and racial inequalities is now.

We commit to working with community partners to advance racial equity in public education; to listening; to educating; to being anti-racist, and to taking action to do the hard work necessary for lasting, meaningful change.
