A report by the Education Data Initiative (July 2022) stated in 2020, there were 15.85 million undergraduate students in the United States. Of these, 12.5% identify as Black or African American and 19.4% identify as Hispanic or Latino.

Expanding Possibilities & Opportunities

“The tiniest hiccup can mean that your entire college experience is derailed. The focus it takes to make sure that an underprivileged kid gets to college, matriculates, and manages to stay there for all four years is immense.”
Derrell Bradford
Executive Vice President of 50CAN

A study led by the Search Institute further concluded, “Nothing has more impact in the life of a child than positive relationships.” This same study listed five critical aspects to a meaningful relationship which help students thrive. One aspect – “expanding their sense of possibilities and opportunities” – perfectly aligns with Higher Edge’s mission of supporting students to and through college. These positive relationships also mitigate risk and prevent students from dropping out.

“Higher Edge was a blessing. This program helped me before and during my college experience. They guided me with applying to schools, scholarships, financial aid, and more. They were a support system I never knew I needed. They were always one text or phone call away, even if you just needed to talk to someone about the good or bad days. They helped keep me focused and always had a helping hand out. I don’t know what I would’ve done without Higher Edge.”
From the University of Connecticut and Central Connecticut State University to colleges in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, Florida and Kentucky; Higher Edge students are making an impact on the bigger world. They are nurses, social workers, educators, computer scientists, financial consultants, aspiring doctors and lawyers. They are our future. They are role models within the community … and proof that dreams can come true.
