When Higher Edge was founded in 2011; the organization was serving 6 students, all from one high school. At the time; Higher Edge was a one year program and only guided students to college. But as students navigated college campuses; they continued to reach back out to the Higher Edge advisors. As a result; the Success program was developed, which follows students through college. Since 2016, 119 students have earned their college degree.
Higher Edge now guides and supports approximately 45 high school seniors each year, from 9 different high schools in Southeastern CT and Willimantic and another 120 college students who attend more than 20 different higher education institutions across the country. As the only program in Eastern Connecticut dedicated solely to college access and retention for low income, minority students; Higher Edge is a leading voice in student advocacy and education equity. Of these college students; 18 are first years and 24 are college seniors.
